Crèche Assistant

A Crèche Assistant is responsible for supervising, caring and nurturing of children in the Surge Fitness crèche facilities to delivery safe and high quality customer experiences. Provides a high standard of customer service in liaising with the crèche children's' parents.

Position Objectives

  • To provide assistance and support to the Crèche Supervisor and staff team to ensure the effective delivery of services within the crèche and Surge Fitness.
  • To consistently deliver a high standard of customer service to all members.
  • To effectively assist in the supervision of the crèche services ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of the children in care.
  • To provide appropriate activities and experiences to ensure the enjoyment of the children in care.


Key Duties / Responsibilities

The key duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Closely supervise children using the Crèche and ensure their safety.
  • Adequately and actively participate in activities provided.
  • Assist Crèche Manager in implementing school holiday activities.
  • Handle phone enquires, respond at all times to bookings and walk-in enquiries.
  • Ensure children are treated in a courteous manner at all times and along with other team members and parents, promoting an enjoyable experience for everyone.
  • Be spontaneous and use initiatives with activities.
  • Maintain awareness of all the club activities and procedures, and provide this information to members when requested.
  • Interact with children by:
    - Playing games and reading stories.
    - Supervising drawing and colouring.
    - Supervising children playing computer games, and watching TV, ensuring all programs are age suitable.
  • Manage member’s feedback and complaints in a professional and timely manner.
  • Understand and communicate club activities, programs and promotions.
  • Encourage children’s participation through initiating and demonstrating interactive activities.
  • Assist other staff in the cleaning and ensure room is ready for crèche use upon arrival each morning or afternoon when necessary.
  • Ensure all children are greeted and settled appropriately upon arrival.
  • Be aware of individual children’s needs e.g. toilet training.
  • Ensure baby room is cleaned after use daily.
  • Maintain a high level of contact and positive communication with members.

With over 23 years of creche experience in a health club environment, Phil has built special bonds and memories with so many families from all over Perth’s suburbs! About Phil: Everyone calls me Philly, I have 23 years’ experience in the Creche/Gym Industry caring for children aged 6 weeks to 12 years. I have 3 daughters and 7 grandchildren and been married for 47 years, I love spending time with family, eating out, and English and Irish history. What inspired you to get into the child care industry? - I love babes and toddlers, they make me smile daily never a dull moment, my namesake Philomena is patron St of babies, toddlers and youth so it was always my calling. What is your favourite thing about working in the creche? - The love we get, the cuddles and the fun I love watching them progress from fear of being left and leaving mum to getting confidence and waving goodbye with a smile.
